When Annie’s husband John dies of leukemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow Women’s Institute members to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence. The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their newfound fame.

The play by Tim Firth is based on true events and on the Miramax motion picture by Juliette Towhidi and Tim Firth. It is directed by Terry Sagedy and auditions are in August. See the web site for more information.

Shows are Nov. 1 - 16 on Friday and Saturday at 8 PM and Sunday at 2PM. There will be a free preview for area senior citizens on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 8 PM - prizes for costumes!

Playfully serious, heartfelt and slightly bent middle class acoustic pop. The award-winning music of Barbara Borok (lead vocal) and songwriter Mike Borok (guitar/vocal) has been played on over 60 radio stations world-wide. They were grand prizewinners in the Music To Life song contest at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival, and were featured in the Emerging Artists Showcase at the 2023 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. NMC returns to the JCC in Sherman stage, where they played the dinner/concert with Don Lowe in May 2024. This concert will be the Connecticut debut of their new album! They will be joined by bassist Bill Strohm. "Great melodic songs, full of warmth, wit and truly delightful and surprising turns of phrase" - Fast Folk “This classy duo clearly knows how to make a song work on all levels...The vocals here are superb... Here are some lovely personal stories, some social commentary. It''s easy to understand why these songs win awards" - SoundBytes Music & videos at newmiddleclass.com and streaming on all platforms.

Felicia Ortner, a Connecticut Master Wildlife Conservationist (MWC) and a bear enthusiast, will provide education and facts about bears and help dispel myths and common misunderstandings. Accumulated data supports the black bear is seldom aggressive toward humans. Felicia has been studying about bears for over 30 years. In the mid 1990’s she turned her passion for learning about bears into a passion for teaching about them. She created an education program called The Bear Reality. Since then, Felicia has provided presentations reaching over 8000 people at programs in CT, NY, MA, NH and, VT.

Felicia believes outreach and education is key in having a better understanding about the life and behavior of bears. Hopefully this will lead to a higher tolerance which is instrumental in creating a strategy of coexistence between humans and bears.

Brookfield Theatre's 2024 Season is made possible with the support of the Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of Arts; Support has also been provided to Brookield Theatre from CT Humanities (CTH), with funding provided by the Connecticut State Department of Economic and Community Development/Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA) from the Connecticut State Legislature; Along with the generous donations of our many supporters and subscribers.

Gentle Mindfulness Yoga

Let Dawn guide you through gentle yoga moves that are perfect for all levels. Learn breathing and relaxation techniques to take off the mat and out into the real world. Enjoy some stretching and leave class feeling calm and rejuvenated!

Dawn will then lead you through a gentle, slow flow yoga planned carefully to help the body and mind release tension. Modifications are offered during all classes so that new students as well as seasoned yogis or yoginis can benefit from this nurturing practice.

Breathing techniques designed to alleviate stress both on and off the mat (in the real world, where let's face it most stress happens) will be taught and practiced.

Classes will incorporate the principles of mediation and mindfulness. The goal of this class is that you feel relaxed, rejuvenated and centered when you leave class. Additionally these skills can often help you to manage situational stress/anxiety/tension as it occurs once you step off your mat and head back into the real world.

No yoga or meditation experience necessary. Bring your own yoga mat and a small blanket or beach towel.

Donna has over 15 years of hands-on canine training experience. Donna works hard to help each dog guardian have the tools and knowledge needed to build a stronger and healthier relationship with their dog. www.tlcdogtrainer.com

*All classes require proof of rabies prior to the first class.

*Humans - No open toed shoes/sandals to class

In response to the national atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC) we will be following guidelines as outlined by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture.

S.T.A.R. PUPPY (5:00PM-5:50pm)

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The S.T.A.R. puppy program includes the following: basic puppy-raising information (jumping, house training, nipping...), basic obedience skills, how to better communicate and understand the language of dogs, and what is needed for responsible pet ownership. This program is designed for dogs less than 7 months in age who have not had any prior group experience.

TWEENER (6:00PM-6:50pm)

Is your dog 7 months or older and never attended a basic obedience class? Then this is the group class for you! The Tweener class will cover all basic obedience skills (including how to infuse these skills as part of everyday life), how to better communicate with and understand the language of dogs, and what is needed for responsible pet ownership.

*This is not a reactive dog class. Each dog needs to be privately evaluated by the instructor.

Basic Obedience 1 (5:00PM-5:50PM)

Has your dog completed the prerequisite class of either the S.T.A.R. Puppy or Tweener Class and you're looking for the next level of training? Then this is the group class for you! The Basic Obedience 1 class takes the skills learned in the Star Puppy / Tweener Class to the next level. We revisit all the skills you have learned - increasing difficulty and reliability of performance. This fun class uses games which support teaching our dogs good manners while having fun at the same time!!

Basic Obedience 2 (6:00PM-6:50PM)

If you have completed  the prerequisite class Basic Obedience 1 and want to start preparing for the Canine Good Citizen class - then this is the group for you. This class focuses on enhancing your leash work skills, how to increase your dog's ability to follow cues with various levels of distractions, as well as how to start getting more behavior for less rewards. You will also learn how to teach your dog to listen to cues from a distance rather than just right in front of you.

Advanced Beginner Crocheting Class

- Come learn in a class designed just for you…an advanced beginner!!

- You will learn 3 ways to begin crocheting "in the round", how to read a yarn label (if you don’t already know how to do this), how to read a crochet pattern, and more!

- Projects include a coaster set as your 1st project and a hat as your ongoing project

- 6 weekly classes, 1.5 hours each

- Requirements: This is NOT a beginner class! You MUST KNOW the basic crochet stitches -- the chain stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet! Other stitches, including 2 different ways to make a brim on your hat, will be taught

Instructor: Andrea Dener

Instructor Bio: My name is Andrea Dener and I call myself The Yarn Farmer because I love knitting and crocheting fun items inspired by the farm and food...like carrot scarves, pumpkin hats, and chicken coasters!

I've been knitting and crocheting since I was 10 years old and love both crafts but LOVE TEACHING THEM EVEN MORE so I became certified to teach both by the Craft Yarn Council of America!

I look forward to bringing out the 'inner knitter' and 'inner crocheter' in you!
