Submissions sought for library photo contest

Birds are the focus of photography contest

NEW MILFORD, Conn. — A local photo contest is gaining traction because of its theme — birds.

The New Milford Public Library is sponsoring a “Capture the Beauty of Birds” photo contest.

“The goal is to get people outside to enjoy nature,” said Amy Berkun, public services librarian at NMPL. “We encourage people to get out….and to use their photography skills to take pictures of the birds.”

The contest is open to two age categories, adults ages 18 and older, and youth ages 12-17.

Berkun described the peace she feels when she is in nature. She often visits White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield, where she is “constantly hearing the birds” and feels connected to nature.

The contest is open to the public. Photographers do not have to reside in New Milford.

Local photographer Linda Hubbard spoke positively of the contest’s theme.

“I love photographing birds and enjoying nature,” she said. “Capturing nature is so enjoyable.”

“I hope a lot of people get out and do it,” she said.

First- and second-place prizes for each age category will be awarded. Third place and honorable mention will be recognized.

To participate, images must be the original work of the entrant, and submissions must be printed as an 8x10. A maximum of three images per person can be submitted.

The deadline to enter is March 31.

A gallery opening and an awards ceremony will be held April 26.

Submission forms are located at the library’s front desk and online at https://newmilfordlibrary.org/photo-contest/. Photos should be submitted with an entry form.
