If you love to read, or shop for books, this is for you

For many, it’s easy to spend hours browsing at bookshelves.
There will be a chance for that in the coming days.
The FRIENDS of the Library will hold its summer book sale Aug. 2 from 10 to 4:30 p.m. and Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at New Milford Public Library.
Early birds are welcome Aug. 2 from 10 to 11 a.m. for a $5 fee.
Free admission will run Aug. 2 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and all day Aug. 3.
The sale will take place in Memorial Hall at the 24 Main St. library.
“The prices are great,” said FRIENDS secretary Janet Wittmann. “You can’t go wrong with anything we have.”
The sale will feature a large selection of gently used books, including hardcover non-fiction sorted by category, hardcover fiction, paperbacks, and trade.
In addition, many children’s and young adult books, sorted by topics and age levels.
Specialty items will include coffee table books, items suitable for gift giving, and back to school supplies.
Wittmann noted pencils, pens, crayons, workbooks and other items are among the back to school supplies.
“We also have a selection of vintage sci-fi paperbacks, some of which were published in the 1960s,” Wittmann said. “They are, for the most part, in really good condition and individually bagged to protect them.”
The secretary noted shoppers are welcome to read the books purchased to keep, pass them on to friends, or bring them back to the FRIENDS to be recycled through the group’s means.
The sale is one of three book sales the FRIENDS host each year. There was one earlier this year in April, then now, and another will be held in early December.
The FRIENDS previously held one major book sale, the Annual Book Sale, at New Milford High School.
Having three smaller sales throughout the year is more “manageable,” according to Wittmann.
In addition to the book sales, a selection of books for sale are available near the circulation desk in the lobby.
“Those books are changed our regularly, so you’re not seeing the same titles over and over,” Wittmann noted.
Book sale purchases can be made by cash, check or Venmo.
