GAYLORDSVILLE, Conn. — A local farm is looking to give young children a taste of life on the farm and gardening Sunday, April 27.

The Village Farm will present “The Little Farmers Club,” a day of hands-on gardening activities for kids ages 3 to 5.

Offerings will include songs, hands-on crafts, and interactive activities that teach them about produce farm life and gardening.

“We really want kids to know where food is coming from,” said new farm owner Patti Skok.

Skok’s sister-in-law, Marie Skok, who has been in the daycare space for more than 40 years, expressed interest in offering a class for children at the farm. Patti enthusiatically said “yes.”

“We are big into having our grandkids help [at the farm] and learn how to plant and where food comes from,” Patti related.

Skok’s family previously owned a gym. After observing eating habits of many individuals and families, such as a limited or lack of fruit and vegetable, they decided to move in a new direction, hence farm life.

The Little Farmers Club will run from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Registration is limited. The cost is $17.85. Proceeds will benefit the farm’s sustainability and education, Patti said.

The farm is located at 684 Kent Road (Route 7).
